From Namibian bush to your fire

Namibia has struggled for decades with severe bush encroachment, with up to 111 million acres (45 million hectares) of grazing land affected, straining water tables and pastureland. Out of this ecological challenge has grown one of the cleanest charcoal industries in the world: native hardwoods like Swarthaak (Senegalia Mellifera) are selectively cleared to help regenerate the land, then processed into dense, long-burning, low-smoke charcoal.

Namibia holds the largest FSC-certified forest area in Southern Africa, roughly 4 million acres (1.6 million hectares), and exports 110,000–220,000 tons (100,000–200,000 tonnes) of certified charcoal annually, mostly to Europe. Namibian charcoal has built a strong reputation in the industry for long burn time, high heat output, and minimal smoke and sparking.

For US PRIMEPORT, it's a natural extension of our model: the same origin region, the same import structure, and the same commitment to traceability, now serving foodservice operators, grill restaurants, and retailers looking for the fire to match the beef.

"The only three questions a chef asks about charcoal: how hot, how long, and how clean — Namibian hardwood answers all three."

Why Namibian Charcoal

Why the wood matters

Namibia is one of the hottest, driest regions on earth, conditions that slow tree growth and produce exceptionally dense wood. Our charcoal is harvested from Acacia hardwood grown in this climate. Acacia is denser than oak or hickory, burning hotter, cleaner, and more evenly, so you need less of it to get the same fire.

Acacia also burns with a notably mild, clean smoke character. Many hardwoods bring an assertive smokiness that can compete with or mask a dish's intended flavors. Acacia stays in the background instead, adding gentle depth from the fire without overpowering what's on the plate, so the food stays the focus.

Who It's For

Built for buyers who demand consistency

Our charcoal program serves American B2B buyers: foodservice distributors, restaurant and grill operations such as steakhouse, churrascaria, and BBQ chains, retailers, and private-label brand partners looking to offer charcoal under their own brand.

Every shipment moves under our own Importer-of-Record status, giving buyers consistent sourcing discipline, quality control, and full traceability from origin to delivery.

We're currently building our first Namibian charcoal program: our first committed containers land in our Florida warehouse in early 2027, and we're securing orders now to reserve space on them.

FAQ

Charcoal questions, answered.

Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing?

We sell in bulk and wholesale volumes, not individual bags — minimum order is 1 metric ton (about 80 bags). Tell us your volume and specs, and we'll work out pricing that fits.

Why is this wood denser than typical hardwoods like oak or hickory?

Camelthorn (Vachellia erioloba), one of Namibia's dominant Acacia hardwoods, has a Janka hardness of 3,680 lbf — almost twice as hard as hickory (1,880 lbf) and more than three times harder than oak (1,120 lbf). That density comes from Namibia's hot, dry climate, which slows tree growth and produces exceptionally dense wood.

Is the charcoal FSC certified?

Sourced from FSC-certified producers in Namibia, with chain-of-custody documentation available on request.

When can I place an order?

Our first containers land in our Florida warehouse in early 2027 — orders placed now reserve a spot on that shipment. After that, we ship straight from stock.

Can I get a sample before placing a full order?

Please contact us to talk through samples for your specific volume and timeline.
